How to improve the efficiency of your air conditioner?

5 TIPS

5 tips to get the most out of your air conditioner

Want to get the most out of your air conditioner with the lowest possible energy consumption? Here are five useful tips to get you started. First things first: start by choosing the right capacity air conditioner for your space. The size and capacity of your air conditioner should match the space you want to cool. An air conditioner that is too big will switch on and off too often, reducing efficiency and increasing wear and tear, while an air conditioner that is too small will struggle to cool the space efficiently.

1. Close windows and doors

Always close windows and doors when using the air conditioner to keep the indoor temperature stable.

For example, make sure the bathroom door is closed when someone is showering so that warm, moist air does not enter the room with the air conditioning.

This simple measure can prevent your air conditioner from over-running to maintain the desired temperature, saving energy and extending the life of the unit.

2. Maintain a constant set temperature

Some people turn the air conditioner to the most aggressive cooling mode to achieve instant room cooling as quickly as possible. However, this is rarely the most efficient way to use the appliance.

You should preferably set the appliance to a stable temperature - around 21 °C is a good starting point. This will ensure a constant and comfortable home environment, while allowing your air conditioner to maintain a constant temperature without the need to over-run.

Avoiding extreme temperature settings also helps to reduce energy consumption and avoid overloading the appliance.

3. Rush the fever

Switch on the air conditioning before it gets hot. This way, the air conditioner will not run as intensively, saving you a lot of energy in the long run.

Alternatively, use a timer, smart thermostat or remote control app to activate the device just before you get home: the perfect way to enter a comfortably cool room.

In addition, the use of programmable settings allows you to optimise cooling at certain times of the day, which is particularly useful during peak temperatures.

4. Clean air filters

To keep your air conditioner running comfortably and efficiently, it is important to clean and maintain the filters regularly, preferably once a month during peak use.

Dirty filters obstruct airflow and reduce the efficiency of the system, making it harder for the air conditioner to cool your room. Regular cleaning or replacement of filters can significantly improve indoor air quality and extend the life of your air conditioner.

If you have pets or live in a particularly dusty area, more frequent maintenance may be needed.

5. Provide an outdoor unit

The outdoor unit is the heart of the air conditioning system and should not be forgotten. Make sure that the air inlet and outlet are not obstructed by obstacles or foliage.

Check the unit regularly, especially before the start of the summer and winter seasons, to ensure it is working optimally. Keeping the area around the outdoor unit clean and free of debris can improve airflow and prevent potential damage.

In addition, consider scheduling professional maintenance at least once a year to inspect and service both the internal and external units to ensure smooth operation.
