Pasteur de Lille Institute evaluates the effectiveness of Daikin air purifiers against respiratory viruses
Brussels, 20 July 2021 - Research by the renowned French Pasteur de Lille Institute concludes that Daikin's air purifier removes more than 99.98 % of the human coronavirus HCoV-229E in 2.5 minutes.
- According to tests carried out in the laboratories of the Institut Pasteur de Lille, Daikin air purifiers remove more than 99.98 % of the human coronavirus HCoV-229E in 2.5 minutes. This virus is from the same family as SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The units were also rated as 99.93 % effective against H1N1 virus in 2.5 minutes. H1N1 is the virus that causes common influenza.
- This means that Daikin air purifiers are an additional measure in the fight against respiratory diseases. A compact plug-and-play purifier can make a major contribution to reducing the risk of respiratory virus transmission.
- This recognition is a milestone in Daikin's plan to become a major player in air purification in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

1 Unique dual mode of operation
External: active plasma ion emission
The technology emits plasma ions into the air and combines them with airborne components, actively generating compounds such as OH radicals with high oxidising power. These bind to surfaces where fungi and allergens are present and break down proteins in the air through an oxidation process.

The filter effectively collects dust particles through electrostatics. Compared to other non-electrostatic HEPA filters that trap particles using only a mesh, this filter is difficult to clog, allowing more air to pass through.

Operation in heat pump mode only
Daikin Altherma M HW operates only in heat pump mode. The auxiliary heater is only switched on as support if the outside temperature is outside the operating range (setpoint 62 °C).
Renewable energy as a priority option
Daikin Altherma M HW operates in heat pump mode by default. The auxiliary heater is only switched on as support if the temperature rise in the tank is too slow (>4 °C/30 min) or the outside temperature is outside the operating range (setpoint 62 °C).
Combined use of renewable and electricity
The Daikin Altherma M HW works both as a heat pump and with an additional heater. The setpoint can be up to 75 °C.
Electricity only
Daikin Altherma M HW works only with an additional heater. The setpoint can be up to 75 °C.
Air recirculation only
Daikin Altherma M HW operates in ventilation mode only. The heat pump and the booster heater are switched off.
